Production capacity being booked out into 2026 is a decent clue that device and component pricing may stay under pressure, particularly for storage. Western Digital’s CEO has said the company is “pretty much sold out for calendar year 2026”, with demand tied to large cloud and AI customers.

We saw a small version of that play out this week. While looking at short-term local NAS options as a bridge before moving data into the cloud, we noticed a sharp jump in the price of certain drives. If you are planning a NAS refresh, backup expansion, or any storage-heavy project in 2026, it’s worth sanity-checking timing and availability earlier than you normally would.
