  • Windows 10 EOL - The Countdown Begins

Windows 10 was released to the public as a free upgrade of Windows 8 and 8.1 back in July 29th 2015. It was a welcomed upgrade over the previous versions which were released to a mostly negative reception. Within 5 years, it was installed on over one billion devices, its the most used version in virtually all countries. But progress continues and Windows 11 was released October 5th 2021. Windows 10, 22H2 will be the final version and updates will continue up until October 14th 2025. After which point: You will no longer receive free monthly security updates or bug-fix patches You will no longer receive technical support from Microsoft You will no longer receive feature updates Some applications, at some point after, will no longer work or be updated if still running on Windows 10 The OS will still continue to work, but it will become more at risk for security issues such as viruses, malware and cyber threats. So it is important to plan for its retirement now. Machines may need to be replaced due to the requirements of Windows 11. The biggest being the requirement for a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) which not all current machines have. If you run any specialised software, you will need to confirm with the supplier or test to make sure it will run on the new version of Windows. Please let us know if you require any help and guidance to make sure your business is not impacted by the changes.
